The bank of the Upper Rhine was Kreditinstitut with seat in Mannheim and branches in Strasbourg, Heidelberg, Karlsruhe, Freiburg and Basel.

The bank became 1856 as & CO. based. 1883 took place the transformation into a corporation under the company bank AG. 1896 were changed the company into bank of the Upper Rhine AG.

The bank of the Upper Rhine was in particular in the short term Unternehmensfinanzierung active. In the collection of bills business it belonged to the prominent credit institutes in Germany.

1898 connected itself the bank by a community of interests with the German bank. 1904 came the bank of the Upper Rhine by the bankruptcy of the Mannheimer corporation for chemical industry into inclination and had to be taken over by the Rheini Creditbank. The Rheini Creditbank came up for its part 1929 in the German bank.

After the Second World War one of the ten regional follow-up institutes of the smashed German bank of 1948-1952 firmierte likewise under the name bank of the Upper Rhine.
