The Barmer bank association Hinsberg, Fischer & Co. with seat in Barmen (today Wuppertal) 1867 were created and were up to the fusion with the Commerzbank AG 1932 one of the largest German banking companies.

1924 were shifted the head office after Duesseldorf.

History

To 29. March 1867 was created the Barmer bank association as limited partnership on shares. As personally responsible partners took over Matthias Hinsberg and Gustav Adolf Fischer, whose banking house became insolvent briefly before, the management. Fischer's creditor converted a part of their demands into shares, so that the Barmer bank association with a share capital could be created by 1 million Talern (=3 million Marks).

Only in the year 1898 the stormy expansion of the Barmer of bank association began, as this with the Gladbacher bank association Quack & CO. in Moenchengladbach fused. After 1900 banking houses were transferred to Altena, Bielefeld, Bonn, Dortmund, Duesseldorf, Hagen, Iserlohn, Krefeld, Osnabrck and Remscheid. After the First World War the Barmer bank association expanded its branch network since smaller cities in north and West Germany. Many of the taken over branches (e.g. Coesfeld or Unna) were closed however after the currency reform 1924 in the course by rationalization measures.

On 2 April 1932 a general assembly took place in Duesseldorf, on which the fusion of the Barmer of bank association with the Commerzbank AG was decided.
