Carl castle (* 19. June 1827 in Mannheim; "† 4 October 1909 ebenda) was a banker and owner of the banking house "„W.H. shop castle & sons "“in 3. Generation, member of the federal state parliament of Baden, honour citizen of the city Mannheim (1907), secret Kommerzienrat and k.u.k Austrian-Hungarian consul (1874-1909).

Family

Shop castle came of a well-known to Jewish family of Mannheim and was the oldest son of the Mannheimer banker blessed man shop castle (1797 - 1873), acting partner of the banking house "“W.H. shop castle & sons"”, and the buyer daughter Julie Goldschmidt (1800 - 1859) made of Kassel.

He married at the 11. May 1859 IDA Goldschmidt (* 10 December 1840 in Kassel; "† 1928 in Mannheim), the daughter of the buyer victory mouth Goldschmidt (1805-1868), partners of the company "“Gebr. Goldschmidt Indigo and color products action"” in Kassel, and the Wilhelmine (1815-1894), whose grandfather of the banking house founders was Moses in Kassel.

Shop castle daughter, the Frauenrechtlerin Julie shop castle (1860-1940) married 1881 the attorney Ernst Bassermann (1854-1917), the later chairmen of the national liberals a party and member of German Reichstag.

Its grandfather was wolf Hajum shop castle (1766-1851), the founder of the banking house shop castle in Mannheim.

Life

Shop castle occurred 1843 already after the attendance of the citizen school with 16 years the parental banking house. In the years 1850-1853 it was active in Paris and London, in order to only then dedicate itself to the own banking house intensively. With the date of its wedding (1859) he became partner. After separating its father he became a boss of the banking house.

Shop castle experienced the transformation of its banking house in the years 1904/1905 still to the South German Disconto society, whose supervisory board presidency it took over, until it delivered these to his son-in-law Ernst Bassermann. This new society was a folder of the German Disconto society, which changed 1929 into Deutsche Bank.

In addition it was member in the supervisory boards of the South German jute industry, the South German railway company in Darmstadt, the Schuckert society in Nuremberg, the Assekuranz society of Baden, the Vita insurance company (later "“Hamburg Mannheimer"”), the Mannheimer steam dragging shipping company and other enterprises.

From 1864-1909 shop castle member of the Chamber of Commerce was, starting from 1868 was it one of the first commercial judges.

Also politically shop castle was active: In the national liberal a party it took a prominent position. The city Mannheim sent it 1887-1891 and 1893-1897 as a delegate into the federal state parliament of Baden. On 4 October 1909 shop castle in Mannheim succumbed to an impact accumulation.

Honours

  • On the occasion of the city anniversary in the year 1907 shop castle was appointed the honour citizen.
  • Since 1909 it - after a temporary renaming during the Nazi regime - gives after the Mannheimer the Karl shop castle road designated to honour citizens in Mannheim new east home still.
  • The existence of the banking house in the year 1885 appointed it Grand Duke Friedrich I. the Kommerzienrat, later followed the appointment as the secret Kommerzienrat.

Medal and decoration

  • Imperially Austrian "“iron crown medal"” (approx. 1874), with which in Austria the award of the hereditary nobility was connected at that time.

Shop castle wife IDA was characterised in Mannheim by honorary activity: It was long since 1904 president of the woman Mrs. of Baden, branch society Mannheim, and many years president of the service messenger association.
