The designation Clerical Medical refers to the Clerical Medical Investment Group Limited and their subsidiaries. Clerical Medical belongs to the HBOS group, one the prominent Finanzdienstleister in Europe. HBOS administers net assets of more than 641 billion euro (conditions: 31. December 2004).

The British branch of Clerical Medical is active as offerers of old age pension insurance and Investmentprodukten in Great Britain.

On the continental-European market Clerical Medical ("„cm"”) offers to time of products in Germany, Austria and Italy. Cm specialized in the ranges life insurances as well as products of the age precaution.

History

1824 were created on driving doctor George Pinckard "„the Medical, Clerical and general Life Assurance Society"” in London. The life assurance company designated itself after its insurants - the medical profession and clergymen. The society changed its names in the year 1825 in "„Clerical, Medical and general Life Assurance Society"”.

Clerical Medical offered as only insurance company insurance exclusive for physicians and clergyman on the university graduates of the time at that time. This brought a crucial competition advantage to the enterprise in heavy contested market.

In the following years insured the society in addition so-called "„persons with deviating life expectancy"”, thus to persons, whose number of deaths rate lay over the average. Clerical Medical was the only enterprise with this offer also here.

Among the customers of Clerical Medical ranked among other things the British queen Victoria, its prince husband Albert as well as Benjamin Disraeli, the preferential prime ministers of the British queen. Already before their coronation/culmination for Victoria several life insurances were locked.

1885 - Introduction of mixed life insurances for case of survival

1914-1918 - During the First World War the business activity is so well stopped. Nevertheless 1916 a dividend can be paid.

1929 - As the first British life assurance company Clerical Medical introduces the administration of savings deposits as mixture of insurance and administration of an estate.

Starting from 1955 - Beginning of sale of old age pension insurance policies.

1961 - Transformation into a cooperative insurance company on mutuality. Thus the society is exclusive property of their insurants.

1974 - Transformation to the corporation. 150 years after establishment the pension fund management is introduced.

1987 - Establishment of the first international subsidiaries.

1997 - The Halifax Group takes over Clerical Medical at the price of approximately 800 million British Pound.

July 2000 - Clerical Medical international is divided into Clerical Medical Europe in Luxembourg and Clerical Medical offshore one on the Isle OF one.

2001 - The British bank enterprises Halifax and bank OF Scotland fuse to the HBOS group.

2005 - Clerical Medical internationally getting thing B.V. takes over the German insurance company MLP life insurance AG, a subsidiary of the MLP AG, for approx. 270 million euro.
