The Commerzbank AG is with a company balance sheet total of 420 billion euro third biggest (after the Dresdens bank) Kreditinstitut Germany (2005, as per own indication of the Commerzbank AG). After conclusion of the assumption of the Eurohypo the enterprise will increase its company balance sheet total on 700 billion euro and to the number 2 of the German banks (after the German bank) will ascend. History

1945 ago

On 26 February 1870 predominantly hanseatische buyers, Merchant Banker and private banker, etc. M. being castle & CO, the COMM ore and Disconto bank in Hamburg based. 1873 were created the subsidiary London and Hanseatic bank, up to the 1. World war was active. In Germany the Commerzbank was active only in Hamburg, until 1897 branches in Berlin and Frankfurt/Main were established. In the year 1920 the Commerzbank AG with the Central German private bank fused AG in Magdeburg to the COMM ore and private bank AG and won thereby a close branch network in Saxonia, Saxonia-Anhalt and Thuringia. To the 1920er years many smaller banks were transferred, among other things 1922 the hessian bank association in Kassel and 1929 the Central German Creditbank in Frankfurt/Main.

During the world economic crisis the Commerzbank had to fuse 1932 on arrangement of the realm government with the Barmer bank association, which possessed a close branch network in north and West Germany. Under the bank crisis the German Reich had a participation of the majority at the Commerzbank, which were then transferred to private shareholders until 1937. 1940 were accepted the name Commerzbank corporation already used in the public.

1958 fuses the institutes and designates themselves to the Commerzbank AG over. The legal seat is shifted after Duesseldorf. The old bank, whose fortune consists practically only of claims of the expropriation of the fortune in the Soviet zone of occupation, is renamed in Commerzbank AG of 1870.

1969 become the Commerzbank internationally S.A. in Luxembourg. 1971 created the Commerzbank as first German Kreditinstitut a branch in New York (the USA).

1994 create the Commerzbank comdirect the bank GmbH, which was umfirmiert 1999 to comdirect the bank AG.

2001 fusion of the CICM (Commerzbank internationally Capital management GmbH, administration of an estate for institutional customers outside of Germany) on the Commerzinvest (Commerzbank Investment management GmbH, special fund daughter).

2002 fusion of the three subsidiaries ADIG (general German investment company ltd., public fund daughter), Commerzinvest and CAM (COMM ore ate manager GmbH, Research and Portfolio management), fortune-administering in Germany resident, to COMINVEST (Cominvest ate management GmbH). The label name ADIG is maintained for the public funds of the Cominvest.

2003 arose rumors that the Commerzbank wanted to take over the fastened HypoVereinsbank (HVB Group). This was taken over however 2005 of the Italian UniCredit.

In the year 2004 the Commerzbank parts, of the financially fastened SchmidtBank resident in the upper-Frankish yard transferred.

Present

The head office of the Commerzbank AG is in Frankfurt/Main in the second highest office building of Europe, whose point towers above 300 m (259 m without antenna) Frankfurt bank quarters. In November 2005 the Commerzbank AG published the planned complete assumption of the Eurohypo AG.
