The 1974 created GLS community bank EEC was the first anthroposophische bank in Germany, which works after ethical-ecological principles (ethical Investment). Their center is in Bochum, further addresses gives it in Hamburg, Frankfurt/Main, Stuttgart and Freiburg in mash gau.

GLS stands for "„community bank for borrowing and giving "“. The desire connects humans, who invest their money with the GLS community bank, to deal "„differently "“with money. After assumption of the business of the at the beginning of 2003 it supports more than 3,300 cultural, social and ecological projects (conditions: 2005).

The bank has country widely over 165 woman employees and coworkers. At 42.000 customers the balance sheet total amounts to scarcely 500 millions euro (conditions: 2005/2004).

The GLS bank is a loan bank and belongs to the Federal association of the German people and Raiffeisen banks (BVR) and its protection facility. The bank deposits are thereby in full height protected.

In March 2005 the GLS community bank received the optimum evaluation in the lastingness index of the Belgian Ratingagentur Ethibel as the first and only bank in Germany.
