Daewoo ("„large universe "“) is a large South Korean Jaebeol. The company is today divided in Daewoo international, Daewoo engineering & Construction and Daewoo corporation. It is in many companies actively under it steel processing, shipbuilding and financial transaction. The car manufacturer Daewoo of engine belonged today as GM Daewoo to general of engine and has nothing more in common except the name with the nut/mother company. Daewoo Heavy Industries was transferred in May 2005 by the company Doosan Infracore. The products such as machine tools are sold provisionally under the name Doosan Daewoo of Doosan Infracore.

The conglomerate was created 1967. Since 1994 Daewoo of engine is present also in Germany. Since 1998 the enterprise came into a financial crisis and sold the automobile section to a group of investors around general of engine, whereupon the section continues now as GM Daewoo car & Technology. Since July 2005 GM Daewoo with absolute majority belongs to general of engine. Daewoo founder and former boss Kim Woo Choong became to 25. May 2006 after 6 years escape because of balance falsification to 10 years detention condemns. In addition it must more than 20 billion dollar at suppressed money pay back.
