Elias Mayer, originally Mayer Elias or Mayer Stuttgart (* 1733-1737 in Stuttgart; "† 1803 in Mannheim), were a pf¤lzischer yard and Milizfaktor (1759) and starting from 1778 upper hoping actuator in Mannheim. He was a first chief Israeli tables of the municipality Mannheim (1793 mention).

Family

Mayer Elias was the son of the Elias Hayum, yard Jew in Stuttgart, later pf¤lzischer yard and Milizfaktor in Mannheim, and the Judle lock.

He married around 1760 Judle Geseke (* around 1735; "† 1794 in Mannheim), the daughter Hamburg buyer of the Gottschalk Geseke.

He was the father of the buyer Gottschalk Mayer.

Life

Mayer Elias comes with its parents as a small child from Stuttgart to Mannheim, why he also Mayer Stuttgart is called.

There he is mentioned 1759 as pf¤lzischer yard and Milizfaktor. Thus it receives the order for the equipment of the troops, to which also the procurement of many millions guldens is necessary, as well as an advance in the course of the seven-year-old of war (1756 - 1763) in the year 1759 from the general treasury from 30,000 guldens, for which Mayer pawns its and its wife entire possession. After conclusion of the war unjustified enriching is accused to him, at this time generally "“more usually"” reproach opposite Christian competitors and envious person the often more successful Jews, and therefore parallel to its own secretly a counter account is provided. Fortunately Mayers own account is however around one half million under the contra-account, so that he is completely rehabilitated.

After completion of the Bavarian succession war (one year's war) the residence is shifted from Mannheim to Munich, why also Mayer must travel several times in the year to Munich.

In the year 1778 he is appointed by the cure prince Karl Theodor the upper hoping actuator and granted to him a request, on which he - coined/shaped by his current experiences as an army supplier - which promise requests that it and none of its sons is ever more permitted, for the government to take over (see Gottschalk Mayer). This promise is given to it.

As acknowledgment for its services Mayer receives a lifelong paying in gold, fodder for two horses, wood and wine.

Few years before its death he gets 1797 even still the warranty by Maximilian Joseph, which Pfalzgrafen of two-bridges that Mayer themselves, in addition, its two sons, which yard agent Gottschalk and Isaak Mayer remains, also after the death of the governing cure prince its privileges and emoluments.

Despite its separating from government services it enjoys largest confidence at the court, why one uses also invariably its knowledge with the purchase of jewels and makes without its advice no such acquisition.

Mayer is time life an extremely outstanding man and is it with Hofe an outsider nevertheless, since he is to be recognized by his special seam beard as a Jew all too clearly. The cure prince wants to increase once even its content, if Mayer would remove its beard, but leans these this unjustified demand by religious conviction very decided off. Like that it is not amazing that he - otherwise without each public honorary office - is over many years however a first chief Israeli tables of the municipality of its hometown, when which he is mentioned 1793.
