Eugene Isaac Meyer (* 31 October 1875 in Los Angeles, California; "† 17 July 1959) was the first head of the World Bank, a Zeitungsmagnat, the husband of Agnes E. Meyer and the father of Katharine Graham.

Meyer visited the US elite university Yale and locked there its studies. By various speculations it became fast the multi-millionaire.

In the year 1910 he married Agnes Elizabeth Ernst, with whom he had later five children.

Under Woodrow Wilson it went to Washington (D.C.) and became the head that was Finance corporation, and up to the office introduction of the president Franklin D. it remained to Roosevelt in the service of the governments. 1933 it bought up the Washington post office; soon thereafter the affair between King Edward VIII. and Wallis Simpson gave the sheet lift.

Harry S. Truman made Meyer 1946 the boss of the World Bank, but returned for Meyer fast to the work on the Washington post office.

After Eugene Meyer and its wife is designated a charitable donation, which substitutes to today in emergencies etc. Already during lifetimes the married couple supported needy ones energetically.

Here in particular Agnes E is to be emphasized. Meyers employment for emigrierte writers as for example Thomas's man during the national socialism in Germany.
