The European bank for reconstruction and development (short EBWE or EBRD, of English European bank for Reconstruction and development) is 1991 a created bank. Their task, posed after the collapse of the Eastern Bloc starting from 1989, is it, to support the countries in central and Eastern Europe as well as in the community of independent states during their transformation process to free-market economy and private and business acting financially.

Function

The EBWE promotes structural and sector-specific reforms as well as competition, privatisation and employers. It supports the production of Kofinanzierungen and direct foreign investments as well as the mobilization of domestic capital by its financing. Investments take place predominantly in private business, usually together with business partners. The bank carries beyond that technical co-operation out within relevant ranges and cooperates with international financial establishment ions and international and national organizations.

Are eligible for promotion in particular banks, industrial companies and enterprises, both reestablishments and investments into existing companies. Co-operation with the public hand aim at privatisations, the restructuring of national companies and the improvement of local services off. According to their mandate the EBWE may become active only, where democratic principles are kept. Also ecological aspects play a crucial role.

Most important financing instruments are loans, financial participation, warranties as well as financings over switching centers, in which the bank takes part.

Structure

Shareholders of the EBWE are 60 countries and two intergovernmental institutions (European commission and European Investitionsbank), thus public carriers. The main committees are the board of governors (a representative per member country) and board of directors (23 members, for three years appointed by the board of governors). The president of the EBWE - appointed by the Gourverneursrat for four years - is at present the Frenchman Jean Lemierre. Within the EBWE there are the following departments:
