The Frankfurt savings bank AG is 8. March 1989 by the union of the Frankfurt savings bank of 1822, a daughter of the poly-technical society, with which developed for municipal savings bank Frankfurt, at that time still as free savings bank in the legal form economic association. With approximately 700,000 customers and a balance sheet total of "€ 14 billion it is the fourth largest savings bank in Germany. As short form also the designation Fraspa or the 1822 is common in Frankfurt and in bank circles.

On 30 August 2005 the savings bank was converted into a corporation and bought from the Landesbank Hessen Thuringia (Helaba). To be able to separate after assumption still in the year 2006 a transformation into an institute of the public right desired around the 1996 created subsidiary 1822direkt (direct bank for the telephone and Internet Banking).

In the course of the assumption also the Corporate becomes Design, which so far of an own "„1822 "“- Logo and the colors blue and yellow were coined/shaped, since 29. May 2006 changed over to the uniform savings bank occurrence with "„S "“- Logo and the color red. The term "“1822"” remains as signature, however it disappears from the official linguistic usage and the product name of the savings bank.
