Friedrich Carl von Oppenheim (* 5 October 1900 in Cologne; "† 22 November 1978, Cologne) was a German banker and European politician.

Life

Friedrich Carl von Oppenheim was partner and boss of the banking house Sal. Oppenheim jr. & Cie. one of the largest European private banks 20. Century. As a son of the banker Simon Alfred von Oppenheim it completed its commercial training in the exempt private company and with that national town center bank OF New York and with the Brazilian bank for Germany in Paulo. 1929 he became acting partner of the private bank of its parents. Later personally responsible partner and senior boss of its house, remained Oppenheim despite the Jewish past of its family during the National Socialist rule in Cologne. 1944 arrested, he was freed with end of war. Despite or because of its originally nationalconservative attitude Oppenheim apart from its vocational working dedicated itself personally to the European agreement process. Since 1958 president (since 1973 honorary president) of the non-partisan European union Germany it managed one of the most important and member-strongest federations of the Federal Republic. It succeeded for the Oppenheim not undisputed due to its luxury-stressed life in and the 60's 50's of its hometown Cologne from important impulses for the European politics in the young Federal Republic to set.

The memorial place of Yad Vashem, Israel, decided 1996 Friedrich Carl baron von Oppenheim in the year posthum as "“fair one among the peoples"” for its earnings/services around the rescue of Jewish humans to recognize during the Nazi dictatorship.
