George Kropp (* 1 December 1865 in (island Usedom), "† 21 January 1943 in desert red) was a learned druggist, large nature lover and mushroom friend. It was active also in the Abstinenzlerbewegung (Guttempler). Kropp worked in the 1. World war as war correspondents, later than Pharmavertreter and ad writers for pharmaceutical products.

He was publisher of the luck book calendar (late Michel calendar), as well as the calendar the mushroom friend. Kropp lived since 1919 in desert red. In the year 1920 it published its book from poverty to the prosperity, in which it addressed first ideas to a kind building saving.

1921 created George Kropp the community of the friends desert-red (GdF) as non-profit association. Because of the inflation it replaced its capital losses from its private fortune to its Bausparern and dissolved the GdF. 1926 were again created it and converted into a GmbH. Thus the first German building society was based, for which Kropp on expanded lecture journeys in completely Germany recruited, particularly among its friends with property-temp-learns. The housing shortage was after that 1. World war particularly largely; - with it the idea of the building saving fell on fruitful soil. On the other hand the time was very problematic after the inflation 1923 and increasing unemployment in the 20's for savers. Nevertheless: The GdF desert-red became a large success, also as it soon no more the only building society in Germany was.

George Kropp was already nearly 60 years old with the establishment of the GdF. Since 1924 he was an editor of the company magazine my home of one's own and managing director of the GdF. 1925 it delivered the management and took over the presidency of the supervisory board. When 1930 the seat of the enterprise was shifted against Kropps will from desert red to Ludwigsburg, George Kropp withdrew from all its offices with the GdF.

In the year 1943 George Kropp in desert red died. It received an honour grave on the cemetery in desert red. On its gravestone his life and work slogan stand: "„Will, God confidence saves/the paternal roofs will build. "“

A further life slogan of George Kropp read: "„Acts, not ink, works, not words. "“
