Government sponsored enterprise (GSE) is a legal special status for private US financial establishments, which pursue business purposes, which lie in public interest. The most well-known examples are the mortgage banks ("“housing GSE"”) Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and the FHL banks. Despite its national order the GSE is not in the government property. They are subject to special supervisory authorities. GSE are released from the federation, state and local rates.

The GSE procures itself at the capital market money by emission of loans. As state near institutes receive it from the Ratingagenturen the optimum soil quality evaluations, although they do not have an express government guarantee. The GSE can fall back however in the case of liquidity problems to a line of credit of the US Treasury.
