la Caixa (German: the savings bank, full name: Caja de Ahorros y Pensiones de Barcelona) is third biggest Kreditinstitut in Spain with more than 22,000 coworkers and over 4400 branches. Today the bank is above average in Katalonien represented.
The savings bank developed 1990 from the union of the two banks Caja de Pensiones para la Vejez y de Ahorros de y Baleares (1904 based) and Caja de Ahorros y Monte de Piedad de Barcelona (1844 based).
To create the Catalan lawyer Francesc Moragas created conditions for savings and retirement funds, better on 5 April 1904 Caja de Pensiones para la Vejez y de Ahorros de y Baleares with the goal. On 16 April of the yearly the Spanish king Alfons XIII weihte. the bank officially in Barcelona.
