The Leipziger bank existed from 1838 to 1901. It was the first private issuing bank of Saxonia and had its seat in Leipzig.

The Leipziger bank became on 5 September 1838 as private bank with the legal form of a corporation (capital stock: 1,5 million Taler) based. To their founders the Leipziger of buyers and banker Jean Marc Albert Dufour (1798-1861) belonged, to Gustav raking place (1795-1865) and William Seyfferth (1807-1881). The bank had its seat in the monastery lane 3 (old house number since 1864: Monastery lane 16) and maintained branches in Chemnitz and Dresden.

Up to the year 1876 the Leipziger was bank excluding an issuing bank.

In year 1898 the new building of the building of the Leipziger bank at the Leipziger city hall ring began (today: Martin Luther ring), directly beside the new city hall, after plans of the architect Arwed Rossbach (1844-1902).

In the year 1900 was August Heinrich Exner director of the Leipziger bank. A risky business with a Kasseler industrial company (AG for Trebertrocknung) as well as gambling in stocks led at the end of of June 1901 (black Tuesday) to a deficit of 40 million Goldmark and for the collapse of the Leipziger bank; on 26 June 1901 the bankruptcy was opened, with which the creditors could liquidate 67% of their demands.

The still unfinished building at the city hall ring came (just like bank in the monastery lane) at Deutsche Bank into Berlin. Since beginning of the 1990er years it is used as principal establishment of the address Leipzig of the German bank Frankfurt/Main.
