The multilateral investment warranty agency (multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency - MIGA) is a part of the group of World Banks.

The MlGA is the youngest member of the group of World Banks. Their mechanism was decided in October 1985, in April 1988 reached it the minimum number necessary for the establishment. Their primary goal is it to promote foreign direct investments in developing countries by offering warranties against the not-commercial risks, like for example restrictions of transfer, breach of contract, war, civilian unrests and expropriation. In addition she advises the governments of the developing countries with the formulation from programs to the promotion of foreign investments. The MIGA tries to supplement with its equipment both national investment guarantee agreements and/or capital protection agreements and private insurance against political risks.

The MIGA offers besides services in the areas the technical aid and the investment consultation. These have the goal of supporting activities of the investment assistance of spreading relevant information in the Internet (IPAnet) and the appropriate capacities in the relevant developing countries of strengthening.

In the financial year 2003 59 deeds of suretyship with a total extent were locked of 1,4 billion US$, with which an estimated investment volume at a value of 5,2 billion US$ in 28 countries, of it about a fifth in the poorest countries was made possible.

Germany is initial member and with a Kapitalanteil of approx. 1 billion US$ with approximately 3.8% involved (right to vote portion of 4.47%).
