The pension insurance office (PVA) is the largest pension insurer in Austria. The formerly independent pension insurance offices of the employees and/or the worker became with 1. 2003 fuses.
Contrary to usually the locally organized health insurance carriers the pension insurance office is a country widely active mechanism. With fusing 2003 the law planned however the mechanism of national places in all Lands of the Federal Republic. Thus today a majority of the agendas of the PVA is settled decentralized in the national places. Before the test specifications of the workers had only national places, which were at the same time responsible for several Lands of the Federal Republic - the test specifications of the employees was in principle central organized with branch offices in the countries.
An important principle of the entire Austrian social security is the autonomy. That is, that the federation transfers national tasks to actually the concerning for autonomy. In case of the pension insurance that means that the pension insurance office is administered by all statutory insurees (thus a large part of all Austrian employees) and by the employers (those half of the pension insurance premiums of their coworkers to pay have). In the reality it looks in such a way that the federal Chamber for Employees' Welfare (to 2/3) and the federal chamber of economics (to 1/3) the so-called "insurance agents" into the plenary assembly, which sends highest organ of the PVA. The chairman (at present Karl Haas) with its 2 deputies manages the pension insurance office. Since the extensive tasks of the PVA cannot be transacted naturally by that honorary active members of the autonomy, the so-called "office" (thus the employees of the PVA) stands for the autonomy to the side.
The PVA employs over 4000 coworkers in the administration (principal establishment Vienna and 9 national places) and over 2000 coworkers in the PVA own special hospitals. Leading employees is the general manager (at present yard advice Ewald Wetscherek) with 2 deputies. Each national place manages a director of national place.
The pension insurance office administers the second highest budget (after the federation) in Austria with 23.58 billion euro (2006). The Deckungsqoute, thus the portion, which is financed by the insured ones, amounts to 97.2%. The administration expense is very low with 1,22% of the budget. The demanded savings goal could be achieved with the estimate 2006.
