The Rhine soil was from 1894 to 2001 a private mortgage bank with seat in Cologne.

Institut was created 1894 under the name Rheinisch soil Credit bank by a bank group in Cologne. Involved in the establishment the A. Schaaffhausen' bank association was relevant. Legal form was the corporation, even if this did not step in the original name into feature. The names around the legal form additive one supplemented only later. As abbreviation particularly in bank circles generally "„Rhine soil was used "“. That corresponded to the abbreviation of other mortgage banks, like south soil (South German Bodencreditbank AG), west soil (West German soil loan corporation Cologne) or cent ral soil (German cent ral soil credit corporation, Berlin, late Cologne), which do not exist today due to fusions as independent banks any longer.

The bank belonged over decades to the sphere of influence of the banking house Sal. Oppenheim in Cologne, which partially directly and partially held over other participation the stock majority.

1990 took place the Umfirmierung in "“Rhine soil mortgage bank AG"”.

In the years 1999 and 2000 the stock majority was sold to the general mortgage bank AG (AHB) in Frankfurt/Main. finally 2001 came it to the fusion with the AHB to general mortgage bank Rhine soil (AHBR) with seat into Frankfurt/Main.

After the fusion to the AHBR the name serves Rhine soil only as label name for an Internet offer of the AHBR.

The bank was transferred in December 2005 of the American financial investor Lone star and the Germany boss Lone of star Karsten from to the chairman of the board was ordered.
