Special banks are credit institutes, which offer only individual products of the banking transaction, which are defined by the credit system law in Germany. In the German-speaking countries Universalbanken with their offer of the entire achievement pallet are the standard in the banking transaction. In the angloamerikanischen right area special banks are usual.

Essentially three specializations are usual:

• Mortgage banks, which operate the long-term loan business. They assign credits against material collateral, like Hypotheken.
