The UniCredit Banca S.p.A. is the largest bank of Italy and one of the most important banks of Europe. The seat of the company center is in Milan.
The bank busily world-wide 69,000 coworkers and has 4,482 addresses. Most important action field, to Italy, is Eastern Europe, where it is with subsidiaries in several countries market leader.
The committees of UniCredit and the Bavarian Hypo and association bank (HVB) agreed on 12 June 2005 of the assumption of the Bavarian bank. The UniCredit will transfer the HVB in the context of a stock swap for approximately 15.1 billion euro. Thus it becomes the ninth-largest European bank. One speculates that in the framework approx. 9,200 places will be lost to the fusion. By the of the bank Austria Creditanstalt, which is already strongly represented at the Eastern Europe market, belonging to the HVB, it expects a stabilization on these markets.
The UniCredit is in the current form a still quite young bank. It developed 1998 from the union of two Italian major banks with three district banks. 1999 pushed still two further Italian banks to the company. In the same year also the Akquise in Eastern Europe began. The fast fusions and large growth is mainly to the current executive committee chairman Alessandro Profumo to be attributed.
